The Essex Great War Archive

In recent weeks we have stopped to remember the sacrifice made by our armed forces in defence of our country. This year was more poignant we marked 100 years since the start of the Great War. To mark this, the Essex County Record Office has joined with The Friends of Historic Essex in creating the Essex Great War Archive Project which will run from 2014 to 2018.

The Record Office will collect items relating to Essex during the war such as photographs, letters, diaries and community records and official documents from wartime organisations. The Friends will raise funds to conserve, catalogue and digitise the archives, both new acquisitions and some that are already held at the ERO.

If you can help please contact the Essex Record Office (ero.enquiry@essex.gov.uk or 01245 244644) for advice on depositing records or the Friends of Historic Essex (www.essexinfo.net/friends-of-historic-essex) for making donations.
