Residents may have seen reports in local media concerning the proposals for re-development of the St John’s site in Epping town centre. Epping Forest District Council made a statement on 17th July on their website which can be found here.
As a result of these reports, the Town Council has received a number of enquiries about proposals under consideration and has made the following statement:
“At an early stage, the Town Council took the decision to take part in influencing the outcome of the planning and redevelopment brief that was prepared jointly with Epping Forest District Council and Essex County Council in relation to the St. John’s Road site.
The Town Council was and remains committed to securing a scheme that is in the best interests of the Town and its residents. At this stage, we would not wish to veto any mixed-use development proposal that presents an opportunity to increase amenities for residents and encourage visitors to the Town.
The Town Council has always felt that if it was not actively participating in the process the likely result would be an exclusively residential development on the old school site which Council does not believe would be the best result for the Town.”
We are encouraging the other Councils to move forward to a final proposal so that we are able to share this with the public and remove the long-standing uncertainty about the future of the site.”
